Welcome to Constitution Hill, a living museum that acknowledges South Africa's past and houses the building blocks for the nation's future. The site is a former prison complex that once incarcerated such high-profile inmates as Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi and Albertina Sisulu.
Today, the precinct is open to the public and visitors are invited to tour its prisons and their many poignant exhibitions. Constitution Hill is also home to South Africa's Constitutional Court, the highest court in the land, which is also open to visitors.
